MVN Animate was easy to use

Got the MVN Animate software for a project. It was pretty straightforward to get going, which was a relief. Didn't have any major hiccups with it. The overall experience was good, and it did what I needed it to do for the animations.

Great value on MVN Awinda

As a first-time buyer, I was looking for the best deal on motion capture. I snagged the MVN Awinda during their academic pricing window, which saved me a good chunk of change – definitely a smart move to inquire about that. The full package felt like a solid investment, especially with the software bundle included. Setup was mostly intuitive, but the initial calibration took a few tries to get perfectly right. Still, the quality for the price I paid makes it completely worth it for my research.

Reliable sensors, as always

I've ordered from Xsens multiple times now, mostly MTi 600-series for different projects. This latest batch was for a new setup and they arrived quickly, much like my previous orders. The consistency is why I keep coming back. The MTi 600-series always performs as expected, though I wish the documentation for integration was a bit more straightforward; it takes a bit of digging sometimes. Still, I know what I'm getting, and that's worth a lot.

Got the Xsens DOT kit

So, I finally pulled the trigger on the Xsens DOT Development Kit. It's pretty neat. I was worried about setting it all up, but it wasn't too bad. The sensors are small, which is cool for my testing. Delivery took about 5 days to reach my place in California, which was decent. The app was a little clunky to get connected at first, but once it was going, everything worked fine. Overall, a good experience.

MTi 600-series sensors are solid

I ordered a few MTi 600-series sensors for a research setup. The ordering process online was smooth, and I got a confirmation email right away. Delivery took about a week to reach my lab in Boston, which was within the estimated timeframe. Packaging was robust, everything arrived in perfect condition. I haven't needed to contact support yet, but the sensors themselves integrated well with our existing system. They're performing as expected, very reliable for the data collection we're doing. The documentation provided was also helpful for setup.

Good value for MVN Awinda

I was looking for a motion capture solution and found the MVN Awinda system. I managed to get an academic discount through my university, which made a huge difference in the price. The cost felt really justified given the features. It was a solid investment for my budget, especially with the discount applied after speaking to their sales team. Made the purchase feel like I got a good deal overall.

Xsens DOT is amazing!

I absolutely love the Xsens DOT sensors! I picked up a set for some biomechanical analysis, and they are just incredible. The accuracy is fantastic, and they connected so easily to my device. I was up and running with data collection in no time. Seriously impressed with how well these work. I will definitely be getting more of these in the future and recommending them to all my colleagues!

How long does it typically take to get an MTi sensor shipped to, say, California? Need it for a project deadline coming up.

C Carol Young 1 month ago
It can vary a bit. I ordered a 600-series a few months back and it arrived in about 2 weeks to LA. They usually give you an estimated lead time when you get the quote.

A Abigail J. 1 month ago
My experience was a bit longer, maybe 3-4 weeks for a specialized MTi-G-710 to SF. Best to just ask sales directly for an estimate on your specific part.

Does Xsens offer any student discounts for software licenses? i'm in a university program and trying to save some cash.

J John 4 weeks ago
Yeah, they totally do! You usually have to apply through their site and use your academic email. I got a good deal on MVN Animate that way last year.
2
J Jeff Williams 4 weeks ago
For software, absolutely. They have specific academic pricing. Just gotta prove you're a student. Hardware is tougher to get a discount on without a big research grant though, just a heads up.

Thinking of getting an MVN suit for a university project. Does Xsens offer any kind of academic discount or something for students?

N Nick Hernandez 2 weeks ago
Yeah, they definitely do academic pricing. My lab got a pretty sweet deal on an Awinda last year for a research grant. You just gotta go through their sales team, don't expect a coupon code or anything like that.

S Sofia Smith 2 weeks ago
I think for software licenses you can use a .edu email too, afaik. But for hardware, probably gotta get a quote directly from them. My buddy got like 15% off their MTi sensors for his phd project.

Does Xsens MVN Link come with any kind of warranty? Like if something breaks in the first year?

S Sam Rivera 1 month ago
Yep, it totally does. I had a minor issue with a cable early on with my Link suit and they replaced it under warranty without any hassle. Think it's standard for their hardware.

A Adam Clark 1 month ago
I'm pretty sure it's a one-year warranty on the hardware from what I remember from my purchase. Always good to double check the exact terms when you're getting a quote though.

I'm looking at Xsens but also Vicon. How do these inertial systems stack up against optical ones like Vicon in terms of accuracy?

S Sean Smith 1 month ago
It's a trade-off, man. Xsens is super convenient because no cameras, but optical like Vicon generally gives you more absolute accuracy in a controlled lab space. If you're going outdoors or need quick setup, Xsens wins.

A Andrew Garcia 1 month ago
For biomechanics, Xsens is really good, especially for field work. Optical can be a pain with occlusions and marker placement. Xsens handles magnetic interference surprisingly well too.

Thinking of getting an MVN suit, is it a big hassle if I need to return it for some reason? like sizing or whatever.

E Emma 1 week ago
Returns were pretty straightforward for me, but definitely check their warranty or return policy on the site for the exact terms. I didn't have any issues with mine.
4
A Andrew White 1 week ago
I haven't returned a full suit, but when I had an issue with a sensor, their support was pretty good about helping out. I'd imagine a full return wouldn't be too bad.

How do these compare to something like OptiTrack? Are Xsens sensors as accurate for detailed motion capture?

E Ella 2 weeks ago
They're different beasts. Xsens is inertial, so no cameras needed, which is huge for some setups. OptiTrack is optical. For pure accuracy in a controlled space, optical might win, but Xsens is way more flexible for outdoor or messy environments.
4
L Linda W. 2 weeks ago
I've used both. Xsens is great for portability and quick setup, and the accuracy is really good for most uses, especially if you deal with magnetic interference well. Optical can be a pain with line of sight issues.

hey, anyone know if they ship to like, New York City quickly? planning a project and timing is kinda tight.

C Carol Young 4 weeks ago
yeah they do. i think the lead time for the MTi sensors was like 2-3 weeks for me, and i'm on the east coast too. might vary by product though.

O Olivia 3 weeks ago
Mine took about 10 days to get to Boston after ordering, so NYC should be similar. It's not Amazon Prime fast but pretty decent for specialized gear.
